His nickname was the "Georgia Peach," and his reputation was anything but warm and fuzzy. Ty Cobb was the surly, spikes-high-sliding star who broke all kinds of baseball records but remained the eternal grouch. Adding to that complicated personality was Cobb's love of nature, which led him to buy a cabin on Lake Tahoe upon his retirement.
Now, 75 years after Cobb bought the property at 1476 Highway 50, Zephyr Cove, Nev. 89448, his family has listed the pine-infused lodge for $6.5 million. Cobb died in 1961, but the family retained the property, renovating and expanding the place in 1992. This historic lodge is set on an impressive 1.02 acres with approximately 147 feet of pristine lakeshore. The property includes two additional parcels that have been conditionally qualified for development by the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency to complete the 2.25-acre site.
While the 2,438-square-foot place was renovated, the inside retains the character of the original owner. It includes 4 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms and a large, open living room with picture windows that overlook the lake in Zephyr Cove. The listing is held by David Cloutier of Coldwell Banker Select Real Estate.
